There are many, many options for surf lessons in Nosara, as you might imagine. Several surf schools: Safari Surf School, which is based at Casa Tucan, Nosara Tico Surf School, Del Mar, Cacho's, etc. There are also surf shops and businesses that offer lessons as well: Coconut Harry's, El Punto, The Gilded Iguana, The Frog Pad, etc. There is also Surf Simply, which is unique to the area in the fact that it is a botique surf resort, offering all inclusive packages in an upscale setting. They stay pretty busy though, so you'll want to book with them before heading to Nosara.
Most schools and businesses that offer surf lessons, follow a similar format. They will coach you through some basics on the beach before heading out in the water where the actual surfing begins. For first-timers, you'll start out in the white water, where the waves have already broke. Most people are standing up on waves by the end of their first lessons. For people that may have some experience before coming to Nosara, they may start you out the back, where the green waves are breaking. Either way, if you're wanting to learn or improve your surfing in as little time as possible, lessons are the way to go.
